PRN Respiratory Therapist II - Non-NICU @ Cobb Hospital

Overview Respiratory Therapist II responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. Delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations, with the majority of time in critical care areas performing protocol ventilator management, independent decision-making, and self-direction. Provides patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-developmental activities. Addresses the biological, emotional, and developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to the patient. Participates in the education of new employees and others. Location: Day shift (United States of America). Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides customer service; completes patient care, documentation, and education; promotes a team approach and a positive work environment; provides a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care; performs patient assessment and assessment for therapy; collaborates with health care team members in planning patient care; verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen & medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy care). Performs arterial blood gas sampling & analysis; educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers. Location specific: assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Provides safe and quality environment: promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging; promotes patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.); promotes performance improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice; reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned; complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associates in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications NBRC-RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner BLS – Basic Life Support (or ARC-BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support; BLS-I – Basic Life Support Instructor) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (or ARC-ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support; ACLS-I – ACLS Instructor) Required Minimum Experience 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Ability to communicate well, critical thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases.
