BOOKKEEPER / STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Location: Germantown, New York



Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM



Compensation: $30.00–$35.00 per hour (depending on experience)



Work Arrangement: On-site | Not Remote

Our client, a construction company in Germantown, New York, is seeking a qualified Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant to join its team as soon as possible. This position is hands-on and accounting-focused, with responsibilities covering general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, job costing, and monthly closing activities. The ideal candidate has solid accounting experience, is proficient in QuickBooks Desktop, and can manage day-to-day accounting operations in a construction environment. This is an immediate hiring need. The position is an accounting-focused role rather than a Controller-level position. 

Qualifications

• Previous experience in bookkeeping, staff accounting, or a similar accounting role.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop.
• Knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience with job costing is preferred; construction industry experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Must be located in New York and able to work on-site in Germantown, NY.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accurate financial records.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Perform job costing and track project-related expenses.
• Assist with month-end closing procedures and prepare account reconciliations.
• Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate accounting documentation and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate with the company's external CPA firm on accounting matters and financial reporting.
• Support other accounting and bookkeeping functions as needed.
