Job Title: Correctional Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Correctional Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year preferred License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, MOAB (required, training provided) Must-Have: Phlebotomy skills, IV starting and maintaining, High Flow Nasal Cannula experience, ability to manage and administer oxygen therapies, experience with detoxification and mental health support Description: This role requires a registered nurse to provide both routine and emergency healthcare to patients in a correctional environment. The registered nurse will conduct health assessments and make necessary referrals to healthcare providers. Responsibilities include triaging and assessing new patients upon intake, performing detox rounds, and managing urgent care situations within the facility. Candidates must possess the MOAB certification or be willing to complete required training during their initial week. The average daily inmate population within the facility ranges from 1640 to 1900. Healthcare services provided by the registered nurse include routine medical care, detoxification support, dental services, and mental health referrals. The role may also include managing and conducting evaluations for various health conditions in a high-volume setting. Flexibility with scheduling, including the possibility of floating between different care areas such as detox and intake, is essential. The position requires strong skills in managing critical interventions and facilitating care under isolation precautions when necessary. Prior experience in emergency departments or medical/surgical settings is preferred, especially for candidates lacking corrections experience. Skills in interpreting dysrhythmias, wound care, and understanding isolation precautions are also required. The registered nurse role is pivotal in ensuring the health and safety of the patient population within the correctional facility.
