About the Position

This is an open book exam based on skills learned. Candidates are provided with all necessary resources to succeed. A passing score of 90% is required; failure to achieve this will result in termination. Candidates must adhere to a radius rule of 50 miles. They may not have full-time, part-time, or PRN positions with any other associated facilities. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to termination of contract. A driver’s license is required for compliance with the radius rule. Department includes MedSurg Neuro patients including post-neurosurgery procedures. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbation, and more. Nurses are required to manage titratable drips such as Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine. There is a charge nurse on each shift who carries an assignment. Patient care techs are available on the unit with a typical ratio of 1:10-20. Tele/monitor techs are available, and RNs should have some awareness of telemetry. Shifts run from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Travelers will be scheduled and limited block scheduling may be approved. Weekend requirements include working at least every other weekend. Holiday requirements include 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s. Floating to other medical surgical areas may be required. Nurses wear navy blue scrubs. There are two days of unit-specific orientation. Success on this unit requires managing daily tasks effectively, good attendance, teamwork, and compassion for patients. The unit serves a diverse patient population. Mechanical lifts are available in every other room. Emphasis is placed on hourly rounding and responsiveness. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is done using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required for this position. The care setting is acute. This is a Nursing division position.
