POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing varied and complex administrative assistance to the Chief of Florida Crime Information Bureau (CIB). This position reviews, analyzes and prepares drafts of memoranda and correspondence for administrative decisions and policies for the members of the CIB, consistent with Department Policies and Procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Compiling and analyzing data and documentation as requested, and presents recommendations in logical formats to aid supervisors in decision making;
- Maintaining a thorough knowledge of department programs and services to assist department customers in resolving problems or responding to requests for assistance and routes those requests to the appropriate areas or individuals;
- Maintaining a tickler file to assist Bureau Chief, section supervisors, and department customers in monitoring assignments and deadlines;
- Maintaining accurate records of property inventory and surplus inventory; performs biannual inventory verification in conjunction with Director’s Office;
- Providing administrative support to the Bureau Chief, section supervisors and staff;
- Providing customer support; answers and screens incoming phone calls and routes them to appropriate staff;
- Assist with coordinating interview schedules and meetings as requested by the Bureau Chief or section supervisors;
- Distributing, sorts and routes incoming mail to Bureau Chief and all CIB sections; and
- Performing other related duties where appropriate or as requested by the Director or Bureau Chief.

- Knowledge of office procedures and practices;
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication;
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
- Ability to maintain confidential information;
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner;
- Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to utilize problem solving techniques; and
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

BACKGROUND:
FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant’s immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting. This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
