Regional Director

Location: Springfield, Illinois

Job Type: Full-time, W-2

Work Setting: Primarily onsite in administrative, residential, and community-based settings

Schedule: Typically Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility based on operational needs

Pay: $95,000 to $125,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

Travel: Local travel throughout Springfield with mileage reimbursement

Relocation: Assistance may be negotiable at the time of offer

Overview

We are seeking a Regional Director of Residential Services to lead residential and community-based programs throughout Springfield, Illinois.

This director-level position is responsible for regional operations, staffing, leadership development, regulatory compliance, service quality, and consistent follow-through across multiple programs supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Regional Director will lead an established multidisciplinary management team, establish clear priorities, strengthen delegation and accountability, and ensure important operational and regulatory responsibilities are completed accurately and on time. This is not a psychologist, BCBA, or direct clinical-services position.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and operational direction for regional residential and community-based services.
• Lead, coach, and develop clinical, program, and field leaders.
• Create clear responsibilities, effective delegation, and consistent accountability across the management team.
• Oversee staffing strategy, employee coverage, performance concerns, and workforce stability.
• Ensure appropriate leadership and staffing coverage across 24/7 residential programs.
• Promote person-centered services that reflect individual goals, needs, support plans, and safety requirements.
• Monitor compliance with Illinois developmental disability regulations, waiver requirements, organizational policies, and quality standards.
• Review audits, reports, documentation, billing processes, employee records, and required regulatory materials.
• Lead quality improvement, staff development, risk management, and corrective-action efforts.
• Collaborate with program leaders, clinical professionals, residential managers, service coordinators, families, guardians, and organizational executives.
• Visit residential locations throughout Springfield to evaluate operations and support employees and managers.
• Provide calm, decisive leadership during staffing emergencies, behavioral incidents, service concerns, and other urgent situations.
• Participate in the organization’s leadership escalation process and remain informed of significant regional events.
• Oversee regional budgets, resource allocation, billing processes, and required financial documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in human services, social services, psychology, behavioral health, organizational leadership, or a closely related field.
• Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree may be considered when they possess substantial directly relevant residential, developmental disability, clinical, or senior operational leadership experience.
• Progressive management experience in residential services, developmental disability services, behavioral health, human services, or a comparable setting.
• Demonstrated experience managing supervisors, managers, or department leaders.
• Ability to delegate responsibilities, establish accountability, and ensure assigned work is completed.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing staffing, operational, compliance, and service priorities.
• Positive and adaptable leadership style with the ability to motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
• Valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally.
• Ability to complete employer-provided CPR, safety, compliance, and program-specific training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Leadership experience in CILA, SODC, intermediate-care, residential I/DD, or community-based developmental disability programs.
• Experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
• Knowledge of Illinois DDD waiver requirements and related regulations.
• Current QIDP qualification or previous QIDP experience.
• Experience overseeing multiple residential locations or geographically dispersed programs.
• Experience supervising clinical and operational leaders.
• Experience with staffing strategy, regulatory audits, quality assurance, billing, and budget oversight.
• Experience improving communication, delegation, and accountability within an established management team.

Work Environment

This position is primarily onsite and includes work in administrative, residential, and community-based settings throughout Springfield. Local travel is required, and mileage is reimbursed.

Limited schedule or work-from-home flexibility may be available based on regional needs, but this is not a fully remote or primarily hybrid position.

Because the organization operates 24/7 residential programs, the Regional Director remains accountable for significant regional matters and participates in leadership escalation when an issue requires additional support.
