Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantAKRF is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations within a fast-paced engineering and environmental consulting firm. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and project-based accounting standards. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced accountant who understands project-based revenue, WIP, and job costing in a professional services environment.Job Responsibilities:General Accounting & ClosePrepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, allocations)Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activitiesReconcile general ledger accounts, including bank and balance sheet accountsAssist with financial statement preparation and variance analysisProject Accounting SupportSupport revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion / time & materials)Analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) and deferred revenue balancesPartner with project accountants to review project financials, budgets, and profitabilityCompliance & AuditSupport annual audit (and other agencies' audits) and tax preparation processesMaintain documentation to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controlsAssist with implementation and adherence to accounting policies and proceduresProcess ImprovementIdentify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reportingSupport ERP system enhancements and automation initiativesEssential Requirements:Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field3-5 years of accounting experience (professional services, engineering, or consulting preferred)CPA or CPA-track preferred but not requiredStrong understanding of: GAAP, revenue recognition, project/job costing and WIPExperience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar)Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)Compensation will range from $80k to $90K, and commensurate with experience.Founded in 1981, AKRF is an award-winning consulting firm with 400 planners, engineers, designers, economists, ecologists, geologists, historians, archaeologists, acousticians, and many other types of professionals guided by the belief that to be original is to be transformative.Professionals join and remain at AKRF for our corporate-casual environment that values flexible work schedules and locations, and balances award-winning projects with social impact initiatives, charitable giving, and plenty of fun and games.
