We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a non-profit organization in New York, New York on a Long-term Contract basis. This position focuses on accurate payment processing, detailed financial review, and strong coordination with the finance team across day-to-day accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings solid accounts payable experience, strong Excel skills, and the ability to manage reporting, reconciliations, and invoice coding in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee day-to-day accounts payable activities and partner closely with finance staff to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing.
• Review invoices, assign proper account coding, and process payments with a high level of precision and consistency.
• Generate financial and payroll-related reports, export data into Excel, and organize information for analysis, coding, and invoice application.
• Complete monthly allocations, prepare journal entries, and reconcile accounts to support accurate financial records.
• Examine invoices and payment details carefully, applying sound judgment to complex coding and expense review situations.
• Support credit card and expense processing by validating charges, confirming payment terms, and resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Track recurring monthly deadlines for allocations and payments, following up proactively to keep deliverables on schedule.
• Use financial platforms such as Financial Edge and AvidXchange, and assist with related accounting support tied to future system integration efforts.
• Provide backup support in adjacent accounting and administrative functions, including accounts receivable and other operational tasks when priorities shift.• Previous experience in accounts payable, including responsibility for more complex processing and financial review tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare reconciliations, allocations, journal entries, and financial reports accurately.
• Strong proficiency in Excel, including working with exported financial data for analysis, coding, and tracking.
• Experience with invoice coding, payment processing, ACH activity, and check run support.
• Familiarity with accounting and payment systems such as Financial Edge, AvidXchange, or similar platforms.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage sensitive financial information and identify inconsistencies quickly.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.
• Collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute across accounting or administrative functions as business needs evolve.
