Solutions Architect

Role Description

The State Based Systems (SBS) division of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Solutions Architect. This position is responsible for designing and implementing short and long-term strategic goals for managing and maintaining systems and software. This involves:

• Gathering requirements and functional specifications
• Assessing current software systems in place to identify areas in need of improvement
• Defining appropriate technical architecture for new development
• Providing expertise and architectural assistance to other technical staff including software development teams

This is a full-time remote position, in a positive and flexible environment. Residency within 100 miles of the Kansas City office is required.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop technical architecture, frameworks and strategies to meet the business and application requirements
• Work with the infrastructure and development teams to ensure the successful implementation of new solutions and enhancements to existing solutions
• Build relationships with related development and support organizations
• Simplify and communicate complex technical concepts to senior leadership, product managers, and other non-technical stakeholders
• Identify, research, and resolve technical problems
• Mentor and establish relations across technical and architecture teams
• Provide technical coaching to team members on design patterns, development processes, and other technical processes to improve their technical skills
• Provide technical governance of initiatives to ensure adherence with standards

Management Responsibilities:

• This position does not have direct reports

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and eight or more years related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required
• Extensive experience with the entire software development life cycle required
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, and experience with securing applications, data, and infrastructure required

Requirements

• AWS Certified Solutions Architecture certification preferred
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines preferred
• Experience with an enterprise grade low code/no code platform is preferred (preferably Appian)
• Experience working with agile teams is required, working with a SAFe organization is preferred
• Systems & Technology Requirements: Microsoft Office Suite/365, Databases (Snowflake, Oracle, and/or NoSQL preferred), Cloud (AWS preferred), and/or specific systems or applications the position will support

Travel Requirements

• This position does not require overnight business travel
• Employees are responsible for their personal transportation to/from the home and office, including events, meetings, and training required by the NAIC

Compensation

• $145,000 - $160,000, commensurate with education and experience

• We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time
