RN Orthopedic Trauma

The Registered Nurse in the Orthopedic/Trauma unit is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with orthopedic trauma, spinal surgery, and elective orthopedic surgical diagnoses. The role requires expertise in telemetry and orthopedic nursing within a fast-paced level 1 trauma facility. The nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care, utilizing strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. This position demands at least two years of relevant experience and active RN licensure in New York. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to orthopedic and trauma patients, including those undergoing spinal and elective orthopedic surgeries.
• Perform patient assessments and telemetry monitoring to detect and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Serve as charge nurse as needed, managing unit operations and coordinating patient care activities.
• Participate in ongoing education and professional development opportunities related to orthopedic trauma nursing.
• Assist with patient and family education regarding treatment plans and post-discharge care.

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience, including orthopedic nursing experience.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working in a Level 1 trauma center.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record system.

• Must be able to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Availability for floating, weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback duties as per unit needs.
• Ability to serve as charge nurse when required.

• 36 or 48 hours per week with rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Schedules include weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments based on unit requirements.
