RN ICU Step-Down

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU and Step-Down ICU units is responsible for providing advanced nursing care to critically ill patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with interdisciplinary team members. The RN administers medications and treatments, documents care accurately, and supports patient safety and experience through critical thinking and clinical expertise. The nurse must be flexible to float between ICU and Step-Down ICU as needed. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing techniques, policies, and standards of care.
• Document patient care accurately and according to standards of care.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient care plans as prescribed by physicians and hospital policy.
• Provide patient and family education and instruction.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units or departments to support the patient's longitudinal plan of care.
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and experience, escalating concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
• Float between ICU and Step-Down ICU units as needed.

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• CPR certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with education verification.
• Minimum of 2 years ICU experience at a Level 1 Trauma Center.

• Experience in both ICU and Step-Down ICU patient care.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration skills.
• Experience with performance improvement and shared governance activities.

• Must be willing and able to float between ICU and Step-Down ICU units.
• Work in a fast-paced, high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center environment.
• Adherence to hospital policies, nursing standards, and state practice acts.

• Day shift from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Shift assignments may include floating between ICU and Step-Down ICU based on unit needs.
