RN Emergency Department

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides professional nursing care across the lifespan from neonate to geriatric patients, utilizing current nursing knowledge and Emergency Nurses Association standards. Responsibilities include patient assessment, triage, development and implementation of individualized care plans, management of emergencies, and patient/family education. This role requires strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced emergency care environment. The position includes scheduled on-call assignments. Responsibilities:

• Triage patients entering the emergency care system and prioritize care based on physical and psychosocial needs.
• Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when necessary.
• Document comprehensive nursing history including chief complaint and health care status.
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care, ensuring availability and functionality of necessary supplies and equipment.
• Continuously update care plans to meet patient and family needs, including discharge planning.
• Manage complications and emergencies in accordance with policies and ENA standards.
• Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate interventions to ensure safety.
• Document patient responses to interventions to support competent medical care.
• Provide health education to patients and families regarding treatment and discharge instructions.
• Assist patients and families with accurate health status information and referrals.
• Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.

• Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse licensure.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, renewed every two years.
• Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred.
• Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor and emotional resilience in high-stress situations.

• Experience with EPIC computer charting system.
• Prior emergency department nursing experience.

• Position is subject to scheduled on-call assignments based on Emergency Department patient volumes.
• Must demonstrate tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when interacting with patients, families, and staff.

• Night shift schedule in the Emergency Department.
• Shifts and on-call duties are assigned according to department needs and community event influences.
