Documentation Specialist

Pride Health is hiring a Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist to support our client’s medical facility based in Chicago, IL 60611 . This is a 12-week assignment with a contract-to-hire opportunity and a great way to start working with a top-tier healthcare organization!
Job Title: Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist
Location: Chicago, IL 60611
Weekly blended pay: $2,650.00/week - $2,720.00/week
Schedule: Day Shift, 8 AM to 4:30 PM
Start date: 07/13/2026
Required Qualifications:
Active Illinois RN license
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing
Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) experience
Minimum 2 years of bedside nursing experience plus involvement in clinical quality, patient safety, or related initiatives
Experience with Epic EMR
Previous Charge Nurse experience
Strong change management and communication skills
The SPD Tech reports directly to the OR Director and should be comfortable working independently in a rural hospital environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
CCDS certification (preferred)
Master’s Degree
5+ years of experience in:
Medical-Surgical Nursing
Critical Care/ICU
Emergency Department
Teaching hospital experience
Key Responsibilities:
Perform concurrent clinical documentation reviews in an acute care hospital setting
Review admissions, continued stays, diagnoses, procedures, and discharge documentation
Identify documentation gaps, complications, CCs/MCCs, HACs, POA indicators, and opportunities for clarification
Create and manage physician queries to improve documentation specificity
Collaborate with physicians, coding teams, HIM departments, and leadership
Ensure compliance with AHIMA/ACDIS, HIPAA, Medicare, and Medicaid guidelines
Support MS-DRG accuracy, severity of illness (SOI), and risk adjustment initiatives
Required Knowledge & Skills
ICD-10 coding concepts
CPT/HCPCS familiarity
MS-DRGs, CC/MCC identification
Chart review of physician notes, H&Ps, operative reports, pathology, lab results, therapy notes, and discharge summaries
Query management and physician communication
Acute care hospital experience
Preferred Skills:
Staff education and CDI training
Collaboration with physician champions and coding leadership
Post-discharge and retrospective reviews
Verbal physician queries
Vizient and Elixhauser Risk Adjustment methodologies
