Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 18 months PCU RN experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with traches, cardiac medication administration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood products, wound care/dressing changes, management of central lines. Description: The position involves providing care in a Progressive Care Unit. The unit typically has 32 beds. Common patient types include those not requiring mechanical ventilation. Diagnoses may include CHF, dysrhythmias, chest pain workup, stroke, abdominal illnesses and infections, respiratory illness, diabetes, acute kidney injury/chronic kidney disease, alcohol withdrawal, and intravenous drug abuse. Nurse-to-patient ratios are usually 1:4, with the potential for 1:5 depending on patient acuity. Support within the department includes certified nursing assistants for activities of daily living. A charge nurse will be available to assist with all nursing care. Phlebotomy services are available, separate from nursing staff drawing samples. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Clientists and intensivists are also on-site around the clock. Telemetry monitoring is provided at the bedside and at the nurses' station. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. Intravenous pumps and medication dispensing systems are utilized. Scrub color is navy. The unit culture is family-oriented. Travelers are expected to work every other weekend and 75% of holidays. Up to six days off can be approved, excluding holidays; additional time may be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met. Schedule cycles occur every six weeks.
