Step Into the Shop

When you start your day at Viking, you step into a fast-moving fabrication environment where steel pipe is cut, grooved, threaded, welded, moved, inspected, and prepared for shipment. As a hands-on Fabrication Technician, you’ll rotate where needed—on the machines, supporting welding and robotics, handling materials, checking quality, or assisting with shipping preparation—so production flows safely and on time.

What This Role Does

You’ll support end-to-end fabrication activities: operating equipment, preparing pipe, moving materials, inspecting output, and keeping the shop organized. You’ll read work orders and specs, measure precisely, and help solve small production challenges as they arise.

Prior steel fabrication or robotics experience is a plus—but not required. We provide on‑the‑job training for fabrication equipment, welding support, robotics, production processes, quality standards, and safety procedures.

A Day in the Life

• Run fabrication and production machinery such as plasma cutters, cold saws, threading and grooving machines, grinders, and semi‑automatic fabrication equipment.
• Rotate to support fabrication, production, welding, machine operation, robotics, and material handling throughout the shop.
• Cut, groove, thread, grind, and prepare steel pipe and components to meet customer specifications and production requirements.
• Assist with plasma cutting, outlet placement, welding support, and automated fabrication processes.
• Read and interpret work orders, production paperwork, measurements, specifications, and tape measures to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Visually inspect materials, welds, and finished goods for defects, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with quality standards.
• Perform grinding, deburring, cleanup, finishing, and general fabrication support work.
• Load, unload, stage, organize, and move steel pipe, fittings, and raw materials through each stage of production.
• Bundle, band, label, and prepare finished products for shipment.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, CombiLift equipment, overhead cranes, and other assigned material handling equipment.
• Troubleshoot minor production or machine issues and promptly communicate equipment or quality concerns to leadership.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe; follow all PPE, LOTO, and SOP requirements.
• Complete required operational, safety, and production training while meeting performance standards.
• Support additional production needs as assigned by Fabrication Leadership or Branch Operations Management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Background in manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, machine operation, production, construction, mechanical trades, or general labor preferred.
• Steel fabrication, welding, robotics, or industrial production experience is a plus but not required.
• Proven ability to work safely in a fast‑paced fabrication/manufacturing setting.
• Mechanical aptitude; comfortable using hand tools, power tools, fabrication equipment, and production machinery.
• Read a tape measure and perform basic math with accuracy.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, blueprints, or fabrication specifications preferred.
• Adaptable to shifting schedules, workflow changes, and operational priorities.
• Forklift or material handling experience preferred.
• Willingness to learn fabrication processes, welding support, robotics, and machine operation through hands‑on training.

Physical Requirements

• Stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
• Frequently lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Work safely around moving machinery, forklifts, cranes, sparks, welding operations, and fabrication equipment.
• Perform in an industrial environment with noise, dust, heat, sparks, fumes, and other production conditions.
