Controller

Our client, a growing construction industry organization, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting operations function and serve as a key finance partner to the CFO and executive leadership. This role owns the monthly close, financial reporting, and project/job costing processes, while also driving process improvement and systems optimization across the finance organization. The ideal candidate brings deep construction accounting expertise — including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and WIP reporting — combined with the leadership skills to build and mentor a high-performing accounting team. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting: Lead the monthly close process and ensure accurate, timely financial statement preparation Manage general ledger accounting, inventory accounting, and cost accounting functions Support executive reporting, lender reporting, audits, and compliance requirements Manage vendor and accounts payable processes, including corporate credit card program oversight Build and mentor accounting team members, providing hands-on guidance and development Revenue Recognition & Project Accounting: Oversee ASC 606 revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion accounting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting Manage project accounting and job costing across active projects and service lines, including percentage-of-completion (cost-to-cost) tracking and WIP reporting by revenue type, product line, and region Develop operational KPIs and profitability reporting by project and service line Financial Process & Systems Transformation: Lead financial process transformation initiatives, building scalable accounting processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure Contribute to Cloud ERP optimization efforts and drive continued process improvement (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite, Oracle, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms) Strengthen internal controls and standardize accounting policies and procedures Business Partnership & Reporting: Partner with the CFO and operating leadership on forecasting Review monthly project performance and margin improvement opportunities with regional project teams Serve as a trusted finance partner to executive management, translating financial data into actionable insight Collaborate cross-functionally to support company-wide reporting and decision-making needs Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role Construction, engineering, or project-based industry experience required, with hands‑on knowledge of percentage‑of‑completion accounting and WIP reporting Experience with Cloud ERP platforms (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite, Oracle, Sage Intacct, or similar) strongly preferred Demonstrated experience leading month‑end close, financial statement preparation, and audit/lender reporting processes Proven ability to lead and develop an accounting team Strong analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills Experience driving process improvement and systems/ERP optimization initiatives Equal Opportunity Employer Company provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws. #J-18808-Ljbffr Talent Square Advisors
