Office Business Development Director

Overview HNTB seeks an Office Business Development Director to lead client development efforts for an HNTB office. The director will implement HNTB’s Sophisticated Planning Approach (SPA) and Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA), oversee the Office Sales Manager (OSM) and Client Service Leaders (CSL), and partner with Office and Division leadership to develop and execute client strategic plans. Responsibilities Define and execute growth strategies to increase HNTB’s market share for the office and its geographic area. Lead business development activities and client‑focused initiatives in partnership with the Office Leader, Division President, and CSLs. Manage and oversee the office’s implementation of the SSA, supervising the OSM and driving CSL performance. Collaborate with division and office leadership to implement the SPA, develop and execute external relationship plans, and other client focus strategies. Support development of the office strategic plan, defining growth goals and strategies with national resources and line leaders. Serve as a key resource to CSLs and pursuit teams to strengthen relationships at all client organization levels and with external influencers. Identify recruiting needs, draft board candidates, and leverage professional networks to bring industry talent aligned with company culture. Leverage SSA Stages1‑3 to support external client focus and business development efforts, creating opportunities for the sales team. Collaborate with internal government relations leaders and external consultants on legislative strategies, client relationships, and community initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. May serve as Client Service Leader and/or Pursuit Champion for assigned client(s). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience, or 16 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Experience and understanding of the A&E industry with an emphasis on client development and emerging markets. Desired Experience Demonstrated experience building a transportation practice in Southern California, especially in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Strong, established relationships with one or more Los Angeles clients such as LA Metro, LAWA, Metrolink, City of L.A., and Caltrans. Experience building winning strategies and proposals for large, complex projects. Preferred Qualifications 20 to 25 years of total experience, including over 10 years of direct business development. Location and Compensation Los Angeles, CA (Figueroa Street). Approximate pay ranges: Los Angeles Metro Area – $238,839.35 to $381,522.60; Nationwide – $207,686.39 to $414,698.47.
