To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:

Qualifications and Experience

• Hold active South Carolina Special Education (SPED) certification
• Proven experience teaching students with mild intellectual disabilities preferred
• Ability to individualize and adapt curriculum for diverse learners
• Familiarity with writing and implementing IEPs
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff and engage families

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialized instruction aligned with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
• Adapt and modify curriculum and teaching methods to address varied learning needs
• Provide targeted instruction in core subjects such as reading, math, and writing
• Track and document student progress, maintaining organized records
• Implement accommodations and instructional supports consistent with IEP requirements
• Work collaboratively with general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers
• Participate actively in IEP meetings, supporting the development of meaningful goals
• Foster an inclusive, positive, and structured classroom community
