Help Plant Trees in North Portland! (age 6+) Referral Let's plant trees together in North Portland! Interested in receiving a tree? Dozens of large (6-10' tall) trees will be ready for planting in their new homes, and your help is what makes this community planting possible! Please arrive by 8:45am to sign-in and be assigned a planting crew. The planting starts at 9:00am. We provide gloves, tools, and guidance, as well as light breakfast snacks and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. We ask that all volunteers dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting dirty, and be ready to have fun! How do I register? We’ve done this by bringing together over 75,000 community members, and while implementing and growing programming that aims to do this work inclusively and equitably. It is widely acknowledged that planting trees is a key part of a comprehensive climate strategy. It is our experience at Friends of Trees that planting trees with community members is also key to fighting climate change. Planting and caring for trees increases community members’ engagement with the environment and overall participation in civic life, including engaging around climate action. There is a ripple effect from volunteering to plant trees that also fights climate change, beyond the actual trees. Opportunity Requirements: Volunteers must be 6 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
