TEMPORARY Seasonal Employee - Chatfield State Park Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour. Temporary position (9 months or less). Employment starts approximately April through November. Positions available for the 2026 season include Revenue Lead, Aquatic Nuisance Species Technician (ANS), Boat Assistant, Maintenance Technician, Visitor Service Technician (VST), Environmental Educator, and Office Attendant. Revenue Lead ($20.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves overseeing fee collection operations and verification of funds generated in the park, assisting with training Entrance Gate Attendants, and may include working in an entrance gate or campground registration building on occasion. Acts as work leader for Entrance Gate Attendants on a daily basis. Includes daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Oversee revenue generated on the park through entrance gates, self‑service pay stations, park headquarters, campground registration office, and shower facilities. Understands and follows park regulations, policies and procedures Help supervise and train Visitor Service Technicians and monitor performance Assist Entrance Gate Attendants with selling park passes on high visitation days Assist Revenue Section Manager with change fund confirmation and park pass audits Manage inventory of all revenue related products at various locations around park Prepare shift box change funds and park pass inventories Investigate shift box overages and shortages Assist revenue supervisor with weekly and monthly revenue reports Organize, file, and mail financial related documents Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of Self Service Kiosks Ensure deposit of all revenue collected and perform weekly deposit verification May assist with special events or programs within the park and promote educational programs May encounter situations that will require effective communication to park staff over radio May document and report visitor complaints May be required to work the entrance station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch in the station General cleaning and maintenance of facilities Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team Other duties as assigned Aquatic Nuisance Species Technician ($18.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves thoroughly inspecting watercraft for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels and other invasive species. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from invasive species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation, water infrastructure, and all water related outdoor recreation activities in the State of Colorado. Includes daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Conduct physical boat inspections and boater interviews Conduct thorough decontamination of watercraft which may involve climbing in and underneath watercraft Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes brochures, promotes ANS education, etc.) General cleaning and maintenance of facilities Accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections, either written or by phone application software May document and report visitor complaints Must attend and successfully complete mandatory state ANS training May encounter situations that will require effective communication to park staff over radio Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team May assist with special events or programs within the park Must be willing and able to climb in and out of vessels and under trailers Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday Other duties as assigned Boat Assistant ($18.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves assisting Park Rangers with boat operations, water related emergencies, patrol boat maintenance and buoy maintenance. Includes daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Patrol boat operation Provide assistance to visitors on the reservoir (distribute maps/ brochures, orient visitors to park facilities and amenities, educate visitors park regulations, boat tows, etc.) Will encounter situations that will require effective communication to park staff via radio May document and report visitor complaints Assist with boating incidents General maintenance and cleaning of patrol boat fleet General maintenance and cleaning of facilities May assist with special events or programs within the park Must attend and successfully complete Basic Marine Operator Training Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday Other duties as assigned Maintenance Technician ($19.00/Hour) Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including: restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Operate and maintain state owned vehicles Assure quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness Occasionally provide information and assistance to visitors May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies Operate power tools and hand tools Operate small engine equipment Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during the course of a workday Other duties as assigned Entrance Gate Attendant ($18.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves working in an entrance gate greeting visitors. Includes daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.) Sell daily and annual parks passes Answer radio calls and give information to staff via radio Operate a cash register and point of sale application Collects revenue and balances shift box at end of each shift May document and report visitor complaints Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of entrance stations May assist with special events or programs within the park Ability to work with limited supervision and work well within a team Other duties as assigned Environmental Educator ($20.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs Schedule, plan and present school and group programs Schedule, plan and present campfire programs and guided hikes Schedule, plan and present outreach programs Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas Work with individual and group volunteers May train volunteer ambassadors Work with other State, Federal and local agency naturalists Market and promote attendance at programs May develop brochures and other written materials May assist with special events or programs within the park May document and report visitor complaints Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc. Attend assigned training sessions Other duties as assigned Office Attendant ($19.00/Hour) A Visitor Service Technician (VST) position that involves working in the campground registration building or the park headquarters building greeting visitors. Includes daily interaction with park visitors that requires effective communication and public relations skills. This is a non‑law enforcement position. Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on park regulations, etc.) Sell campground permits, boat registrations, OHV/snowmobile registrations Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties Sell fishing and hunting licenses Answer radio calls and give information to staff via radio Operate a cash register and a point of sale system Answer telephones and transfer/take messages Collect revenue and balance shift box at end of each shift Prepare campground reservations forms and documents May document and report visitor complaints Photocopying and filing documents Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of facilities May assist with special events or programs within the park Other duties as assigned Requirements Must be 16 years of age or older Must have a current & valid driver's license or reliable transportation OR Must have a current & valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle The work-site will provide some uniform items, however the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense Applicants are subject to successful completion of a comprehensive background check Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays Must be available to work varied shifts Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree or similar education Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service Basic computer skills preferred (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite) Must have a valid driver's license if driving a State‑owned vehicle Employees who operate a State fleet vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving the vehicle If operating a State fleet vehicle, the driver’s motor vehicle record will be reviewed Have an assigned State fleet vehicle or use a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle Physical Requirements This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Possibly standing for 8 hours straight on overly busy days. Work Context Primary means of communication for this position is radio; electronic mail and face‑to‑face discussions occur daily. Work includes daily interactions with visitors and other staff. The number of hours worked is, on average, but not limited to, 40 hours per week. Shifts are generally 8‑10 hours and days off are generally weekdays. Shifts will include weekends and holidays. Error in this position could result in minor to serious implications if the mistake was not readily correctable (depending on the situation). Most written communication is handled electronically via email. Contact with others occurs daily and is an essential part of the role. Work is performed as part of a team environment.
