Administrative Specialist I (S)
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.
The position provides administrative and program development support to the Assistant Director for Staff Acquisition and the Employment Services Section Chief and the 5 Program Specialists. Responsibilities are based on the needs of the section and will vary throughout the year. The Administrative Specialist II will provide assistance and support with organizing and planning various projects and initiatives. Project needs will dictate tasks and will generally include data management and analysis, as well as creation of products such as newsletters, forms, spreadsheets, training manuals, brochures, and fact sheets for internal and external customers as requested by Program Specialists. This position will manage logistical coordination and planning for presentations and will serve as producer when requested.

Salary Grade Range $41,206 - $72,113 Recruitment Range $41,206 - $56,000 Position is eligible for a hybrid-teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Significant knowledge of office work, program procedures, methods and practices
- Significant knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and program terminology to compose, proofread and edit correspondences, reports, and other materials
- Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of narrative and numerical materials
- Ability to learn programs and services and applicable rules and regulations and apply this knowledge in problem-solving and responding to most questions and inquiries
- Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive in nature
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform sedentary work, involving prolonged periods of sitting while completing administrative and computer-based tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively through frequent talking and listening in person, by telephone, and during meetings or presentations.
- Ability to perform frequent fingering and repetitive hand movements, including keyboarding, data entry, and operation of office equipment.
