Business Development Representative

Benchmark Automation & Controls, the Mid-Atlantic's premier specialist in energy management and building automation solutions, is seeking a driven Business Development Representative to help expand our presence throughout the Baltimore market. What You'll Do As a Business Development Specialist, you'll play a key role in driving growth by identifying new opportunities and cultivating relationships with mechanical contractors, general contractors, consulting engineers, developers, and facility owners. In this role, you will: Prospect, qualify, and develop new business opportunities throughout the region. Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, engineers, and facility owners. Partner with clients early in the design phase to influence project specifications and deliver value-driven control solutions. Respond to RFPs, prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, and successfully close new business. Grow existing accounts through renewals, upselling, and cross-selling opportunities. Collaborate with engineering, project management, operations, and service teams to ensure exceptional project execution and customer satisfaction. What We're Looking For We're looking for a motivated sales professional who thrives on developing business, building relationships, and creating long-term partnerships. Preferred qualifications include: 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, or industrial automation. Proven success in outside B2B sales, preferably within technical, industrial, or construction-related industries. Experience selling to contractors, consulting engineers, developers, and facility owners. Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Understanding of contractor and engineering workflows and the ability to speak their language. Experience with Plan & Spec, Design-Build, and Direct-to-Developer sales. Ability to confidently discuss ROI, lifecycle value, and total cost of ownership. Schneider Electric experience is a plus. Base Pay: $100,000-$120,000 Commensurate with experience. This range represents a general guideline; however, several factors are considered when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
