Account Executive, US College Sales

The Account Executive - College sells to Higher Education faculty within a designated geographical territory. With a hunter mentality, their objective is to grow market share by establishing new business with Sage Vantage, myBusinessCourse, and other digital or print content that meets course needs. Ideal candidate is an independent, self‑starter whose responsibilities include conducting well‑structured consultative sales calls, persuasively demonstrating technology product capabilities, establishing relationships with faculty members and other customers to gain new business and grow revenue. Field‑based in the greater Baltimore, Maryland area, this role involves overnight travel of 15‑20% during the prime selling season and requires a strong drive, ample product knowledge, and active listening skills to systematically run a large geographic territory using in‑person and virtual sales techniques. Responsibilities Maintain a highly visible presence to customers, conducting quality sales calls and securing Vantage demonstrations through professional selling techniques. Position Sage as a strategic business partner within social science departments and business schools by actively listening to customer needs. Travel to assigned campuses during selling seasons, with geographic travel and overnights outlined in advance; often requiring more than 40 hours per week. Plan and execute campus appointments, video calls, telephone, and email exchanges to progress the territory pipeline and seize new market share. Identify, qualify, and dynamically pursue new sales leads in the territory; sell to identified targets while converting existing business into recurring revenue models to meet sales goals. Deploy key sales tools daily and leverage insights from these tools to accelerate pipeline movement. Grow market share at the territory and title level each selling season through internal partnerships, personal drive, and resilience. Demonstrate Sage technology confidently and employ sales enablement tools during sales calls. Ensure data within the CRM system is accurate by maintaining and updating the sales pipeline daily. Product and Market Knowledge Collect and communicate market feedback and product information to Product, Technology, and Sales Management teams. Develop deep product knowledge through learning programs and persuasively articulate the value proposition of products in a competitive landscape. Address objections and misconceptions, answering prospective customer questions independently or with internal collaboration. Provide Product Teams with market development leads, faculty advocates, and potential textbook authors. Planning, Reporting, and Database Maintenance Perform lead generation by identifying courses, decision makers, enrollments, and product‑in‑use information for targeted course markets. Work opportunities in CRM to prioritize pipeline and optimize revenue. Plan campus outreach via trips, video calls, and phone calls. Complete expense reports and manage the annual travel and expense budget. Conference Attendance/Business Travel Travel full day and overnight to customers two or more hours away during active selling times. Attend bi‑annual sales meetings and other company‑wide meetings. Customer/Author Relations Provide excellent customer service by offering information, resources, and timely troubleshooting. Ensure customers and authors have a positive experience and a favorable image of the company. Cross‑sell and referral sell to existing customers within the installed base of business. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree with evidence of high academic achievement. Demonstrated record of success in academic and professional background. 2 to 4+ years sales experience with a creative, persuasive, strategic, and persistent sales demeanor. Hunter mentality, self‑reliant and success oriented. Strong technology demonstration skills. Dedicated work ethic; workload regularly exceeds 40 hours per week during peak selling seasons and requires willingness to work necessary hours and travel based on assigned geography. Equally adept at working independently and within a team. Proficient in PC environment and experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications, and PowerPoint. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills. Outstanding time management, organization, and attention to detail. Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly and creatively to changing business needs. Preferred Field‑based sales experience strongly preferred for remote‑based sales positions. Sales experience in the publishing industry or related SaaS/technology industries is a plus. Familiarity with CRM systems. Experience with other sales technology programs and video conferencing.
