Work Environment

This role is situated within local schools in Houston, Texas, providing a unique opportunity to work directly with students, educators, and families. Working hours will generally follow regular school hours, from 9 AM to 5 PM, allowing for a conducive work-life balance. You will collaborate closely with educators and school staff, creating an environment focused on both mental and physical health, integrating services to ensure comprehensive support for students.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments and evaluations to accurately diagnose mental health conditions in children and adolescents.
• Implement effective medication management plans, monitoring therapeutic outcomes and making necessary adjustments in collaboration with the multidisciplinary school team.
• Provide crisis intervention services and emotional support to students experiencing significant distress, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Engage in collaborative care with teachers, counselors, and parents to create supportive strategies that address behavioral and emotional challenges faced by students.
• Develop and deliver psychoeducation sessions focused on mental health awareness and resilience building among students, staff, and families.
• Maintain detailed and timely patient records while adhering to all relevant privacy protections, including HIPAA regulations.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on a diverse patient population of children and adolescents within the school environment. You will address a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral disorders, ensuring that care is tailored to the individual needs of each student. By fostering positive relationships with young clients and their families, you will play a crucial role in creating a supportive and healing environment.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree in Nursing with a specialization as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
• Valid state licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a psychiatric specialization.
• Proficiency in conducting mental health assessments and treatment planning, especially within school or community health contexts.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective engagement with both young patients and their families.

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience working in community health centers, schools, or similar settings involving pediatric mental health.

Compensation and Benefits
