Position Senior Staff Accountant Location Costa Mesa, CA Job ID 2245 # of Openings 1 Hourly Wage $28.00 per hour Seasonality This is a seasonal/temporary position not to exceed 122 days. Position Purpose The Senior Staff Accountant independently performs complex accounting duties that require an understanding of the entire accounting process, such as coordinating new program implementations, reviewing proposals to change accounting procedures, preparing analysis reports for management, and coordinating monthly and year‑end reports. Essential Functions Review for accuracy following internal accounting procedures and GAAP. Review payment requests in accordance with State Administrative Manual, CalHR, and MOU rules. Determine overdue balances by reviewing aging reports and issuing collection letters. Act as liaison between the Accounting Department, employees, vendors, and control agencies to resolve issues. Analyze accounting records from software and assess accuracy and completeness. Inform management about accounting issues using software and spreadsheet analysis. Reconcile bank statements for various accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting. Comply with internal control systems, including separation of duties. Develop record‑keeping and accounting systems using spreadsheets. Prepare standard data entry and authorization forms in accordance with internal policies. Verify vendor information and payments in accounting systems for 1099 reporting. Write letters, memoranda, and other correspondence with stakeholders. Write and update desk procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations. Provide information to supervisors, coworkers, employees, and the public by telephone or in person. Conduct research using manuals, internet, databases, and regulations. Analyze and evaluate numerical and financial data to maintain records per GAAP and internal policies. Provide training to develop employees in the Accounting department. Maintain and update capital project worksheets and accounting records in databases. Audit and review incoming financial documents for compliance. Analyze payroll processing using software to assess accuracy and compliance. Qualifications Four years of increasingly responsible professional accounting or auditing experience. Ability to analyze information to identify and resolve irregularities or errors. Understanding of various accounting process flows and ability to implement new processes. Ability to manage and analyze large amounts of data. Teamwork and relationship‑building skills. Rapid learning and integration of information to carry out assignments. Monthly and quarterly analysis skills, research, and variance documentation. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication in English. Attention to detail for accurate information. Strong MS Office skills, including Excel pivot tables and V‑lookup. Positive, can‑do attitude and strong work ethic. Professional demeanor representing the OC Fair & Event Center. Success‑oriented mindset to find solutions. Trainable to learn various functions. Special Requirements Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as required by events and programs, including peak OC Fair dates. Time‑off restrictions may be imposed during peak workloads. Preferences Previous team or project leadership/supervisory experience.
