\nOur client seeks a contract Research and Accounting Lead to own the monthly close for R&D activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. The role will drive accruals, support accurate period recognition, and partner with Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, CMC, Program Management, FP&A, and external vendors. The position will prepare analyses and schedules that inform monthly, quarterly, and annual close and support financial reporting requirements.\n

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly accounting and close process for all R&D-related activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
\n
• Own the monthly R&D accrual process, including vendor outreach, meetings with internal stakeholders, accrual and prepaid analysis, preparation of supporting schedules, and complex journal entries.
\n
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules related to clinical trial expenses, CRO contracts and related services, investigator grants and site payments, pass-through costs, CMC and manufacturing activities, central laboratory expenses, external research collaborations, preclinical research, and other R&D development costs.
\n
• Serve as the primary accounting partner to Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, CMC, Program Management, FP&A, and external vendors, ensuring accurate financial reporting and proper period recognition of R&D related expenses.
\n
• Prepare key R&D analyses and reporting for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including significant contributions to management close presentations.
\n
• Prepare complex balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses.
\n
• Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and ensure accounting records are complete and well-supported.
\n
• Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.

Experience Requirements

\n

• Demonstrated experience leading monthly close and accrual processes for R&D or similar complex functions.
\n
• Proficiency with U.S. GAAP and application to R&D expenditures and period-end recognition.
\n
• Experience preparing complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
\n
• Ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders and external vendors.
\n
• Strong analytical skills with variance investigation and documentation discipline.
