Job Description and Duties Under the supervision of the Correctional Institution Fire Chief/Safety Officer, the Fire Captain will operate and maintain fire department equipment, recharge fire extinguishers, perform search and rescue, conduct fire drills, investigate fires, report fire safety violations, and train staff in fire life safety. The position also supervises and trains incarcerated persons in fire prevention and suppression, manages general housekeeping of the fire station, maintains firefighter records, evaluates performance, writes reports, recommends corrective actions, and maintains inspection logs. The Fire Captain attends staff meetings and training as necessary and performs related duties as required. Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. Individuals eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered. Working Conditions North Kern State Prison, Delano, CA.
