Facilities Administrator

Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to administer building maintenance operations, mechanical and electrical repair activities, building security, centralized mailroom, custodial and lawn care services for multiple facilities. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Essential Functions Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures. Collects data, prepares and submits reports regarding activities and operations, and completes special projects. Reviews bid specifications and cost estimates, prepares change orders, and submits requests for contractor payments. Administers the facilities maintenance operations and programs which involves coordinating maintenance and constructions projects and activities with departments, vendors, contractors, architects and engineers. Researches strategies, evaluates cost effectiveness and feasibility, and recommends best practices and improvements. Represents the department to governmental agencies, community groups and the public to provide information regarding facility management, energy conservation, and other related areas. Serves on committees and researches and develops action plans regarding environmental programs. Administers facilities project management operations and programs. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Business or Public Administration or related discipline. Four (4) years of multi-facility maintenance or project management; building construction; general contractor or building inspection experience, including two (2) years of managerial experience. EQUIVALENCY: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, but must include two (2) years of managerial experience. Other Minimum Requirements Must provide one's own source of transportation. Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA. Must be on 24‑hour call. Must work a varied schedule. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Must complete the annual security awareness training. Physical Demands Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
