Step into a vital role supporting students’ educational journeys in the New Orleans area as a school-based Social Worker with a focus on pupil appraisal. This full-time, contract opportunity aligns with the school calendar, running from ASAP through late May 2027, and brings the chance to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative, assessment-driven environment.

As a key contributor to the Pupil Appraisal Department, you’ll help determine eligibility for special education services. This position emphasizes multidisciplinary teamwork, working closely with School Psychologists and Educational Diagnosticians. Expect a varied work week, itinerating between 2-3 schools, engaging with a diverse student population. The caseload primarily involves evaluating and re-evaluating students, conducting testing, monitoring interventions, facilitating and coordinating evaluations, and actively participating in SBLC/ABIT meetings.

Ideal qualifications include:

• Active Louisiana Department of Education Certification, plus an active Professional License
• Experience in school settings, with strong skills in assessment and student evaluation
• Familiarity with special education eligibility and pupil appraisal protocols
• Ability to collaborate with educational teams and communicate compassionately with families
• Comfort with an itinerant, multi-campus schedule
• Readiness to complete required fingerprinting, background check, and drug screening as part of credentialing

Core responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive student evaluations and re-evaluations
• Document findings and provide recommendations for special education eligibility
• Attend multidisciplinary meetings and work closely with staff and families
