LPN Medical Surgical

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN) on the Medical/Surgical Adult unit provides appropriate nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role involves gathering and reporting patient data, carrying out physician and nursing orders, and performing therapeutic procedures tailored to the adult medical/surgical population. The LPN contributes to patient care by working collaboratively within the healthcare team to ensure quality and safety. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care as directed by the Registered Nurse on the unit.
• Gather and report patient data accurately and timely.
• Carry out physician and nursing orders, including medication administration and treatments.
• Perform therapeutic procedures appropriate to the medical/surgical adult patient population.
• Document patient care activities and observations in compliance with policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support patient care plans.
• Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and comfort as needed.
• Respond to patient needs and report changes in condition promptly.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to perform nursing duties in an age and population-appropriate manner.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• One year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Experience or comfort working with emergency or critical care environments.
• Familiarity with ventilators, tracheostomies, and PICC lines.
• Two years of direct patient care experience.

Special Considerations:

• Work is performed on a Medical/Surgical adult unit requiring attention to adult patient care needs.
• May require adherence to hospital policies regarding shift work and patient safety protocols.

Scheduling:

• Day shift assignment on the Medical/Surgical unit.
• Shift schedules determined by unit management based on staffing needs.
