Job Description - Drafting Technician (Transportation Specialist) III-V: Bridge & Hydraulics Office (Austin District) (2600922) Job Description Drafting Technician (Transportation Specialist) III, IV, or V: Bridge & Hydraulics Office (Austin District) - (2600922) Position Information TxDOT’s Austin District is looking for a Drafting Technician (Transportation Specialist) III, IV, or V to join our Bridge & Hydraulics Team at the District Headquarters. This position is geared towards a bridge detailer or CAD technician with experience in producing 2D plans and 3D modeling of bridges , including repair details, rehabilitation plans, and bridge replacement layouts. The role supports our bridge design and construction program by developing accurate, constructible, and well‑coordinated plan sets for a wide range of structural repair and replacement projects. This position is for ONE Transportation Specialist III, IV, or V. Assists with project planning and oversight, and the development of policies and procedures for the area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties Assists in overseeing project design/drafting involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections. Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature. Develops and prepares consultant work orders and agreements. Develops site layouts utilizing engineering workstations and software. Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments and plan development. Represents the Department at various meetings. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for TxDOT. Additional Duties for Transportation Specialist IV or V Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design/drafting issues. Assists in overseeing project design/drafting involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections. Assists in planning, developing, administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreements. Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects. Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature. Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants. Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of highly advanced engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion. Serves as technical member on transportation-related projects. Additional Duties for Transportation Specialist V Oversees design/drafting work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors. Oversees project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway. Oversees project design/drafting involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections. Evaluates and analyzes highly complex design/drafting issues. Qualifications Minimum 5 Years in Transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) Licenses and Certifications Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Required Competencies Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.
