Position Title: Human Resources & Payroll Specialist

Location: Orange County, CA (Remote)

Department: Administration/Human Resources

Reports To: Owner

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

A growing residential plumbing contractor is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Human Resources & Payroll Specialist to support our field and office operations. This role is responsible for managing payroll processing, employee relations, benefits administration, recruiting support, compliance, onboarding, and HR recordkeeping.

Payroll Administration

· Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for field technicians, apprentices, and office staff.

· Ensure accurate tracking of employee hours, overtime, PTO, and job costing allocations.

· Maintain payroll records and employee earnings information.

· Administer payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and tax withholdings.

· Coordinate payroll reporting and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation.

· Resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries promptly.

Human Resources Administration

· Coordinate recruiting activities including job postings, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, and onboarding.

· Manage new hire documentation, background checks, drug screenings, and employment verification.

· Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS records.

· Administer employee benefits programs.

· Support employee relations and workplace concerns.

· Maintain employee handbooks, policies, and HR procedures.

Compliance & Safety Support

· Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.

· Assist with workers compensation and unemployment claims.

· Support OSHA and safety training recordkeeping.

· Track licenses, certifications, and continuing education.

Qualifications

Required: 3+ years of payroll and HR experience, payroll software proficiency, strong Excel skills, and excellent organizational abilities. QuickBooks experience required.

Preferred: Construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or skilled trades industry experience.
