About the Position

Job Opportunity – Progressive Care Unit / Medical Oncology RN – Ohio

Start Date: October 5, 2026

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (day/night combination based on unit needs). Schedule reviewed every 4-week period. Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs.

Highlights:

• 36-bed oncology telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to progressive care level patients
• Patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU patients, 1:4-5 for medical-surgical telemetry patients
• Oncology experience preferred but not required – PCU and ICU backgrounds are excellent fits
• Epic charting system with GE telemetry monitoring, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
• Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient safety
• 72-hour comprehensive orientation provided

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience with at least 1 year of PCU experience (must be current and consistent within last 12 months)
• Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Epic charting system experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Willing to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Education from ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• 2 professional references required (at least 1 from manager/director or formal leadership)

Clinical Skills Required:

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care and management
• Accessing and managing ports
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• Managing cardiac drips (no titration required)
• PCA pump management
• IV insertion and maintenance
• Feeding tube care and management
• Tracheostomy management
• Respiratory support: CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases
• Use of rapid response teams

Preferred Skills:

• Management of dysrhythmias and titration of cardiac drips
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
• Wound care and wound vac management
• Arterial line management
• Surgical drain management
• Phlebotomy

Patient Population:

• Adult patients with solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• High acuity PCU patients with some medical-surgical level patients
• Pediatric patients extremely rare and typically assigned to permanent staff
