Junior Accountant

Junior Accountant | New York, NY (Midtown) | Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite / 3 Days Remote | Pay: $25–$30/hr | Salary upon conversion: $55,000–$60,000 About the role A well-established New York nonprofit is looking for a Junior Accountant to join their General Ledger team of five. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity focused on month-end close, financial reporting, and ad hoc analysis - with structured onboarding, a dedicated mentor, and a clear path to a permanent role for the right person. What you’ll actually do Support month-end close, including journal entries and GL activity (approximately 35% of the role) Prepare weekly ad hoc reports and support financial reporting for an assigned portfolio Review financial data and prepare accurate, timely reports Work within Yardi and/or Microsoft Dynamics NAV to manage accounting activity Collaborate with a team of six across GL and AP/AR functions Follow up proactively with team members and meet deadlines independently What we’re looking for 2+ years of general ledger accounting experience - journal entries, financial reporting, and month-end close Yardi and/or Microsoft Dynamics NAV experience preferred Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment Proactive communicator - comfortable asking questions and following up independently Eager to learn, takes ownership, and brings strong attention to detail A large, mission-driven nonprofit headquartered in Midtown Manhattan with over 45 years of community impact across housing, behavioral health, and social services. The GL team is structured and collaborative, with a formal mentorship program built into onboarding - approximately 30 minutes of guided training each morning for the first 4–6 weeks.
