SOUS CHEF (FULL TIME)

Job Summary We are hiring immediately for a full time Sous Chef position at Montclair State University – 1 Normal Avenue Student Center, Montclair, NJ 07043. This role is pivotal in assisting the Executive Chef, coordinating cook activities, and ensuring seamless kitchen operations. Key Responsibilities Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards, meeting all deadlines. Supervise hourly food service associates: interview, schedule, payroll, train, counsel, review performance, and recommend disciplinary action. Store food in designated areas and follow all corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures. Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, utensils, and workstations; keep display equipment clean and free of debris during service. Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner. Explain daily menu items to associates and customers accurately. Keep up with peak production and service hours. Monitor inventory, deliveries, production, consumption, and waste; inform the supervisor when supplies or products are low. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Prior culinary leadership experience is required. Work Details Location: Montclair State University – 1 Normal Avenue Student Center, Montclair, NJ 07043 (online applications only).
