RN Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse for Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and Newborn care is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to mothers and infants, supporting an average of 40 deliveries and 6 C-sections per month. This role includes patient assessments, monitoring, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective care. The nurse may also serve as charge nurse after appropriate training, requiring strong clinical expertise and leadership. Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays is essential. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum rooms, and newborn care in rooming-in settings.
• Manage patient assessments, monitor fetal and maternal status using advanced fetal heart monitoring techniques.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Serve as charge nurse occasionally after charge nurse training, overseeing unit operations and staff coordination.
• Support breastfeeding initiatives and baby-friendly hospital practices.
• Float to other qualified departments as needed, performing patient care or task-oriented duties.
• Respond to patient call lights, answer phones, and assist with unit communication and coordination.

• Minimum of 5 years recent experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care in a healthcare setting.
• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• American Heart Association ACLS or ALSO certification.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification or RNC-EFM as a substitute.

• Experience serving as charge nurse or leadership roles in L&D units.
• Additional certifications related to maternal and newborn care.
• Ability to float and provide competent care in other hospital departments.

• Must be flexible to work 12-hour day shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Occasional charge nurse responsibilities after training.
• Travelers may be required to float to other qualified departments.
