RN Intermediate Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intermediate Care Unit is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care to patients, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans. The RN administers medications and treatments according to established standards, ensures accurate documentation, and participates in performance improvement activities. This role requires critical thinking to maintain patient safety and quality care in a fast-paced hospital setting. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing techniques and policies.
• Document patient care and treatment accurately according to standards of care.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient plans of care, including patient and family education.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units or departments as needed.
• Use critical thinking to address patient safety and experience concerns and escalate appropriately.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• CPR certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with education verification.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in Intermediate Care Unit or similar acute care setting.
• Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration skills.
• Performance improvement and shared governance experience.

Special Considerations:

• Work in a hospital Intermediate Care Unit environment requiring adherence to state laws and hospital policies.
• Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical setting.
• Critical thinking and escalation of patient safety issues are essential.

Scheduling:

• Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Schedule based on unit staffing needs and hospital policies.
