Full-Time Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in Weight Management

Position Overview

The Peaceful Mind Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team in a full-time capacity. This role is focused on providing telehealth services to clients facing challenges associated with obesity and binge eating. As a vital member of our mental health team, you will leverage your skills to help individuals navigate their mental health journey, making a significant impact on their overall well-being.

Work Environment

This position offers a remote work setting, allowing you to conduct sessions via telehealth and maintain a flexible schedule. You will benefit from a structured yet supportive atmosphere that values collaboration and professional development. Our team operates under a standard 36-hour workweek, strictly Monday through Friday, enhancing work-life balance without on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive evaluations assessing the emotional, psychological, and behavioral aspects of patients struggling with obesity and binge eating.
• Utilize standardized diagnostic tools to evaluate mental health conditions and guide treatment strategy formation.
• Conduct individualized therapy sessions focusing on emotional issues, behavioral patterns, and psychological factors affecting clients' weight management efforts.
• Create tailored treatment plans aligned with each patient's unique goals, preferences, and needs.
• Educate patients about psychological elements affecting weight loss, including self-esteem, body image, stress management, and effective coping strategies.
• Work collaboratively with patients to deepen their understanding of the emotional triggers contributing to overeating and unhealthy eating habits.
• Empower clients to achieve sustainable behavioral change through evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate group therapy sessions centered around weight management, fostering peer support and encouraging shared experiences.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers, including physicians, nutritionists, and physical therapists, to ensure holistic treatment for our patients.
• Regularly assess and document patients' progress towards mental health and weight management goals, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to provide optimal care.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) using the EPIC system, including counseling notes, treatment plans, and patient evaluations.
• Stay informed on the latest trends and research in mental health counseling and weight management through workshops and ongoing education.
• Promote a culture of learning by sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues and trainees when opportunities arise.
• Uphold the highest ethical standards in patient care, ensuring confidentiality and professional integrity.
• Contribute to a positive team environment through active engagement in team meetings and case discussions.

Patient Population / Client Focus

This role will allow you to work closely with individuals experiencing obesity and binge eating disorders. You will address their unique emotional and psychological challenges, supporting them in their journey toward better health and self-acceptance. Your expertise will help clients understand the complex interaction between mental health and eating behaviors, ultimately guiding them to develop healthier lifestyles.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in mental health counseling or a related field.
• Valid, unrestricted Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) license in New York State.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to perform tasks that may occasionally involve lifting and moving up to 15 pounds.
• Specialized visual abilities necessary for the role.

Preferred Experience

Experience in mental health counseling, particularly with clients dealing with obesity or eating disorders, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the EPIC electronic medical records system and a proven ability to work in a telehealth environment will be considered advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $105,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
