The role involves providing care to trauma patients with a focus on their acute and chronic needs. This is a fast-paced specialty medical/surgical unit. The patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. Night ratios may occasionally rise to 1:7, though this is rare. Travelers must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs. Floating may occur to various units within scope, including a nearby campus. Weekend shifts are required; four weekend shifts are expected in an eight-week period. Holiday work is also required, with travelers expected to work two out of three major holidays. All travelers must be nicotine-free. Candidates must have significant experience with drips and telemetry. A variety of interdisciplinary support services are available on the unit. This position emphasizes the need for proficiency in handling medical emergencies, IV management, and patient monitoring. Additional skills may include wound care, tracheostomy management, and care for patients with traumatic brain injuries.
