Hommali is a Thai restaurant in the West Village that celebrates the richness and diversity of Thailand’s regional cuisines through seasonal ingredients, thoughtful technique, and warm hospitality.

Hommali is seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our opening team. This role is essential in helping lead our kitchen operations, support and develop the culinary team, and maintain the highest standards of quality, consistency, and organization.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who enjoys working alongside the team, takes pride in building systems and mentoring others, and understands that exceptional restaurants are built through discipline, collaboration, and attention to detail.
Sous Chef Responsibilities- Lead daily kitchen operations before, during, and after service.
- Ensure all dishes are executed consistently according to Hommali’s recipes, standards, and plating guidelines.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and support cooks and prep staff.
- Organize daily production, prep schedules, and station readiness.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory management, and food cost control.
- Monitor product quality, consistency, and proper portioning.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment.
- Ensure compliance with all sanitation, food safety, and HACCP standards.
- Communicate clearly with ownership and the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist with menu development, recipe testing, documentation, and continuous improvement of kitchen systems.
- Help build and maintain a positive, respectful, and professional kitchen culture.
- Support special events, seasonal menu changes, and additional operational projects as needed.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a professional kitchen.
- Fine dining or high-standard restaurant experience preferred.
- Passion for cooking and strong interest in Thai cuisine.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with ordering, inventory management, scheduling, and food cost control.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
