Job Description Summary The Executive Chef sets the tone for Sonesta’s Culture of Caring and is responsible for all aspects of managing the Culinary department. The role focuses on creating amazing moments for guests and team members, ensuring food preparation meets the highest standards, and driving results through the culinary team. Responsibilities Operational / Functional: Direct day‑to‑day kitchen operations, write and test recipes, create menus, manage BEOs, ensure supplies are ordered/received/stored, maintain inventory, support the Catering department, respond to guest complaints, manage payroll, hire, train, and promote staff, enforce safety and sanitation standards, and perform any other job‑related duties. Strategy & Planning: Prepare weekly schedules, analyze guest satisfaction data to set goals, coordinate projects impacting floor and room inventory, and conduct regular inventory checks. Financial Management: Monitor department expenses, review food cost daily, control labor costs, maximize profitability, and participate in budgeting and forecasting. Managing Your Team: Attract, retain, and motivate staff, conduct pre‑shift meetings, monitor performance, conduct annual evaluations, provide coaching, and handle employee issues fairly. Leading with Passion: Collaborate across departments, motivate staff to high standards, lead by example, and inspire acceptance of Sonesta’s core values and guest service standards. Qualifications & Skills Ability to work in a physically demanding, time‑constrained kitchen environment. Proficiency with all kitchen products and ingredients. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer‑service communication. Strong organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory, and leadership skills. Extensive knowledge of the hotel and hospitality industry. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
