A typical work week consists of Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for occasional evening shifts based on patient needs. Key Responsibilities\n- \n
- Conduct thorough mental health assessments tailored to the unique needs of older adults, identifying key psychological, cognitive, and social factors impacting their well-being. \n
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based therapeutic interventions, ensuring approaches are sensitive to the cognitive and emotional challenges faced by elderly patients. \n
- Provide therapeutic interventions including individual and family therapy to address and mitigate geriatric psychiatric disorders effectively. \n
- Collaborate closely with geriatric psychiatrists and allied health professionals to provide integrated care, ensuring that all aspects of a patient’s health, including physical and emotional factors, are addressed. \n
- Respond to crisis situations involving mental health emergencies for elderly patients, offering immediate support and interventions as required. \n
- Educate patients and their families about various mental health issues, treatment avenues, and community resources that can assist in their care journey. \n
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards, utilizing approved electronic health records (EHR) systems. \n
- Actively participate in team meetings and case consultations, contributing your insights and learning from other professionals in the field. \n
- Engage in continual professional development by staying updated on the latest research, treatment methods, and best practices in geriatric psychiatry. \n
The primary focus of this role is the geriatric population, individuals typically aged 65 and older. These patients often present with complex mental health challenges that require nuanced understanding and specialized interventions. The counselor will engage with elderly individuals requiring assistance for disorders such as depression, anxiety, memory disorders, and adjustment disorders related to aging, loss, or chronic illness. - A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required. \n
- Must possess a current and valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or Psychologist in California. \n
- A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience working in mental health, preferably with a focus on geriatric patients, is preferred. \n
- Strong understanding of geriatric mental health disorders and evidence-based treatment modalities. \n
- Proficient in delivering individual and family therapy tailored to older adults. \n
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a patient-centered and empathetic approach while engaging with both patients and their families. \n
- Ability to build trust and establish rapport with a diverse elderly clientele. \n
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems and relevant computer applications. \n
- Capability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. \n
