Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. On-call duties may be required as necessary.

Additional Hours: There is an opportunity for rotating 10-hour shifts (4-day work week), and we are open to considering 32 or 36 hours weekly.

Position Overview

This position is centered around performing various interventional radiology procedures, both elective and emergency, utilizing imaging techniques such as DSA, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and CT. This role requires specialized knowledge and skills acquired through vocational education, training, and practical experience. It is an experienced-level position that necessitates a foundational understanding of job procedures and tools, typically gained through prior work experience and vocational or technical education. The technologist will operate under moderate supervision, addressing routine issues but may occasionally need to interpret or deviate from standard protocols, requiring effective communication of information that may need clarification.

Job Responsibilities

This role involves executing interventional radiologic procedures in alignment with departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives. The technologist will be trained and experienced in caring for patients undergoing various Interventional Radiology Procedures, including Angiograms, Thrombectomy, Kyphoplasty, Venous Access, Biopsy, and Drainage. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, and a team player, capable of maintaining composure in high-pressure situations. Flexibility is essential, as the needs and schedules may change throughout the day. Collaboration with department members and other services is crucial to ensure a high standard of healthcare delivery.

Qualifications for IR Tech I:

• Associate degree in Radiology or a related field.
• Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
• Eligibility for state licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
• Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in healthcare settings.
• Experience with X-Ray procedures.
• Experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.
• Certification in Vascular Intervention (VI).

Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

• Position and prepare patients for interventional procedures as directed by the Interventional Radiologist.
• Assemble sterile procedure trays with necessary supplies under the guidance of the Interventional Radiologist.
• Assist the physician in the accurate positioning of guidewires, catheters, and devices during procedures.
• Maintain a sterile environment and keep the procedure table organized.
• Circulate the room during procedures, identifying and opening required supplies as requested by the physician, using proper hand-off techniques.
• Transmit images to PACS, merge studies, and assign them to the appropriate physician.
• Document all exams performed, including supplies used, contrast media, and fluoroscopy time.
• Engage in radiation safety practices, including the use of badges and safety equipment, and adhere to radiation safety protocols while attending required training.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure education to patients as necessary.
• Assist with inventory management, maintenance, and ordering of supplies.
• Demonstrate skills in patient monitoring, including blood pressure, pulse oximetry, intravenous care, and sterile techniques.
• Accurately enter all charges and review them for reconciliation upon completion of exams.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, occasional sitting and walking, and lifting of 30-35 lbs.
• Pushing, pulling, and maneuvering stretchers and imaging equipment.
• Manual dexterity is required for operating transducers, imaging devices, and computer keyboards.
• Hearing and vision must be sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors, and respond to alarms.
• Close contact with patients who may have contagious diseases.
• Exposure to patients receiving radioisotope injections, necessitating the use of lead aprons during exams.
• Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, families, and other hospital personnel.

Skills & Abilities:

• Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology is essential for evaluating laboratory data, medical history, and symptoms to tailor radiologic examinations safely and accurately.
• Ability to acquire and effectively apply knowledge of various Interventional Radiology procedures and equipment.
• Strong communication skills to interact with patients and all personnel involved in procedures, ensuring effective coordination for successful examinations.
• Capacity to concentrate for extended periods under varying conditions while gathering diagnostic information.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients in the assigned service area.
• Ability to work independently while seeking assistance from others and supervisors when needed.
• Exhibits good judgment and creativity in problem-solving while maintaining professionalism.
• Responds calmly and appropriately to changes in work scheduling.
• Collaborates effectively with colleagues and management to foster a high-quality patient care environment.
• Attention to detail is crucial for ensuring patient education, safety, and comfort, as well as for discussing clinical situations with physicians.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Knowledge of image quality, radiation safety, and radiologic procedures is essential.

Salary Range: $44.17 - $56.32
