Business Development Manager

Who We're Looking For: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Business Development Manager to join our team. This individual will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new client relationships, growing our presence in the retail and food & beverage sectors, and supporting the firm's strategic growth initiatives across the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter who thrives in a professional services environment and brings an established network in commercial real estate, retail, or the food & beverage industry. Key Responsibilities: Identify and pursue new business opportunities with corporate‑operated retail and food & beverage brands actively expanding across the US and Canada Build and maintain relationships with key decision‑makers including VP‑level real estate, construction, and development contacts at target client organizations Develop and manage a prospect pipeline, tracking relationships from initial outreach through proposal and contract Represent the firm at industry trade shows, conferences, and networking events to raise brand awareness and generate leads Collaborate with firm principals to develop proposals, presentations, and marketing materials tailored to prospective clients Conduct market research to identify expanding brands, track industry trends, and provide intelligence on new business opportunities Coordinate with internal teams to support a seamless transition from business development to project delivery Contribute to the firm's marketing content and communications, including social media, newsletters, and case study development Report regularly on pipeline activity, outreach metrics, and business development progress to firm leadership Qualifications: 5–10 years of business development, sales, or marketing experience, preferably in architecture, engineering, construction, or commercial real estate Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Architecture, or a related field Demonstrated ability to identify, pursue, and win new client relationships in a B2B professional services environment Familiarity with the retail and/or food & beverage tenant improvement landscape is a strong plus Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills Demonstrate a disciplined, organized approach to pipeline management Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial firm environment Willingness to travel approximately 20–30% for client meetings, trade shows, and industry events Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with design industry tools a plus Who You Are: A relationship builder who earns trust over time through consistency, follow‑through, and genuine curiosity about clients' businesses Proactive and self‑directed — you set your own goals, hold yourself accountable, and bring solutions rather than problems Collaborative with designers, principals, and project teams — you understand that business development in a professional services firm is a team effort Intellectually curious about the retail and food & beverage industries, and motivated to stay current on market trends and brand activity Polished and professional in representing the firm at the executive level Valerio Architects, Inc. provided the following inclusive hiring information: We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status. Paid time off 401(k) matching program Health insurance Vision insurance Life Insurance Short Term Disability Employee Parking/Commuter Benefits Salary Information: In compliance with California (California Equal Pay Act, California Labor Code § 432.3) and New York (New York Labor Law § 194-a) salary transparency laws, the following salary expectation breakdown is provided for this position: Base Salary Range: $80,000 to $100,000 annually, plus performance bonus of 10–20% of base salary This salary range represents the base annual compensation for this role. A performance bonus of 10–20% of base salary is available based on new client revenue targets.
