Legal Billing Specialist

Our law firm is seeking an experienced Billing Specialist to join our accounting team in a hybrid role based out of our San Diego office. In this position, you will work closely with our billing attorneys to revise, process, and issue accurate monthly invoices while helping ensure timely collections and account follow-up. Because this role requires consistent communication and follow-up regarding outstanding balances, accounts receivable experience is highly preferred. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Distribute initial invoices for attorney review every month Amend invoices with guidance from billing attorneys and finalize for distribution Maintain accurate financial records for incoming payments on accounts Resolve any billing inquiries by working with the client’s accounting department Assess accounts receivable reports for past due balances owed and follow up with clients on when payments will be made Issue new client fee agreements and process retainers Apply incoming payments to the correct accounts and keep accurate financial records Generate and distribute Prebills and ensure that attorneys receive, review, and return edited Prebills in a timely manner Prepare requested revisions from billing attorneys and run final bills for distribution Disperse monthly invoices to billing attorneys for initial review Monitor retainer balances and secure replenishments from clients as needed Review reports indicating past due accounts and follow up on when to expect payment Research and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing issues and problems in a timely manner Provide budgets, billing forecasts, and ad hoc reporting to management and clients Qualifications At least two years’ experience working in a law firm environment as a billing specialist Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills are required A high school diploma or equivalent is needed; some college is an asset Computer proficiency with MS Office, Excel, and billing software programs is essential Able to produce a high quality work product while handling multiple projects Minimum of two years working as a billing specialist in a law firm Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills are essential in this role Compensation $28 - $30 hourly #J-18808-Ljbffr
