# Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit – Ohio

Schedule:

• 12-hour rotating shifts (Day/Night rotation based on unit needs)
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs
• One pre-approved time off period available
• 72-hour orientation provided

Highlights:

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
• High-acuity PCU experience with patient ratios of 1:3 (PCU) and 1:4-5 (Med-Surg Telemetry)
• Diverse patient population including solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Epic charting system with modern equipment including GE telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
• Strong interdisciplinary support including pharmacy, respiratory services, physical therapy, rapid response teams, and more
• Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and evidence-based patient safety practices

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience (must be current within the last 12 months)
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
• Valid RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
• Current certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Nursing degree from ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions only)
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity

Required Clinical Skills:

• Interpretation of cardiac dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
• Blood product administration and transfusion protocols
• Central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care and management
• Port access and management
• IV insertion and maintenance
• Management of cardiac drips (with and without titration)
• PCA pump management and heparin protocols
• Feeding tube care and management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Respiratory support: High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management
• Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
• Use of rapid response teams and code participation
• Continuous bladder irrigation

Preferred Skills:

• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring (oncology experience preferred but not required)
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Wound care and wound VAC management
• Arterial line management
• Surgical drain management
• Phlebotomy
• Non-invasive airway management

Note: Oncology experience is preferred but not required. Nurses with solid ICU and PCU backgrounds are highly successful in this role. Pediatric patients are extremely rare on this unit and pediatric experience is not required.
