Job Opportunity – Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit RN – Ohio

Start Date: October 19, 2026
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (Days/Nights or combination based on unit needs); reviewed every 4-week scheduling period

Highlights:

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
• High acuity PCU environment with focus on solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU patients, 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry patients
• Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including PT, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Oncology experience preferred but not required – nurses with strong ICU and PCU backgrounds excel in this role
• 72-hour orientation program to ensure clinical preparedness

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience with at least 1 year of PCU experience (must be current/active within the last 12 months)
• Valid Compact or Ohio RN license in hand at time of submission
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
• Two professional references required (at least one from a manager/director or formal supervisor)

Essential Skills:

• Cardiac monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias using GE telemetry system
• IV therapy including starting IVs, accessing ports, and managing central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral lines
• Blood product administration and heparin protocols
• Management of cardiac drips (both with and without titration) and PCA pumps
• Respiratory support including high flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and tracheostomy management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac systems) and interpretation of arterial blood gases
• Feeding tube care, continuous bladder irrigation, and use of rapid response teams

Preferred Skills:

• Chemotherapy administration and monitoring experience
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Wound care and wound VAC management
• Arterial line management and phlebotomy
• Surgical drain management and non-invasive airway management

Unit Specialties:

This specialized oncology unit emphasizes infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention while caring for a high-acuity patient population. The unit utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, and PCA pumps. While pediatric patients may occasionally be present, they are extremely rare and typically cared for by permanent staff – pediatric experience is not required.
