Payroll Supervisor

The Department of Justice is committed to working to ensure safety and justice for all Californians. Under the general direction of the Supervisor II, the Supervisor I plans, supervises, and directs the work of a staff of four Senior Personnel Specialists. The Supervisor I plays an important and highly visible role in ensuring important human resources policies are followed and customers are satisfied. The Supervisor I is anticipated to possess extensive experience in payroll and Human Resources. Knowledge of the State of California Personnel Transactions experience is essential, including experience processing and/or reviewing complex personnel and payroll transactions. The Supervisor I will be expected to: Plan and oversee a variety of important work processes related to payroll and benefits Ensure correct and timely payment of wages Independently identify and resolve the most complex transaction issues and problems Act as custodian of records Draft letters and other correspondence regarding highly technical subject matters Work and communicate with control agencies Serve on human resources-related task forces within the Department or with other departments The Supervisor I acts as technical expert to the Department's Executive Staff; Director of the Office of Human Resources; Personnel Officer; program managers and supervisors, as well as to analysts and other staff members regarding human resources, payroll-related, and collective bargaining-related issues.
