SolidWorks Specialist for AI Model Training [Remote]

Design and refine parametric 3D CAD parts and assemblies that will be used to train next-generation AI systems. This contractor role focuses on producing production-ready SolidWorks models, clear documentation, and manufacturability guidance for an innovative customer. Domain expertise in mechanical design, manufacturability, and GD&T is the core value, no prior AI experience required.

• Create fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs, emphasizing robust feature trees and precise constraints.
• Edit and update existing parametric models to meet new technical requirements, and document all changes clearly.
• Audit and review CAD models for dimensional accuracy, correct tolerance application, and manufacturability across processes.
• Apply design for manufacturability principles for injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging during modeling tasks.
• Translate design intent and requirements into structured CAD data suitable for AI model training.
• Produce detailed written reports and provide verbal updates to project coordinators and fellow contributors.
• Perform reverse engineering tasks such as scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversions when required.
• Optionally automate CAD workflows and repetitive tasks using scripting or macros.

• 4+ years of hands-on parametric CAD experience for editing models, and 10+ years for creating complex assemblies.
• Proven experience with SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Practical application of GD&T, per ASME Y14.5 or equivalent, in real-world manufacturing contexts.
• Demonstrated support of at least two manufacturing methods among injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, and casting or forging.
• Current, active involvement in mechanical or industrial CAD modeling work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including concise project documentation.
• Reverse engineering experience such as scan-to-CAD and point cloud conversion is a significant advantage.
• Experience with assembly-level modeling, feature tree management, tolerance application, and manufacturability analysis.
• Optional: experience automating CAD tasks using Python, iLogic, VBA, or similar scripting tools.
