26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Africana Studies

Position Summary The Department of Africana Studies seeks temporary faculty to teach undergraduate courses such as IFRS 10: Introduction to Africana Studies, IFRS 15: Slavery and the American Experience, IFRS 20: Critical Thinking About Race, IFRS 27: Black Popular Culture, IFRS 68: Black Protest, IFRS 40: Law, Policing, and the Black Community, and other courses as needed. Responsibilities Temporary faculty members are obligated to comply with university and system‑wide policies as directed by Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. They will prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures and assignments; hold office hours; maintain course materials; and meet all classes as scheduled in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid). Compensation Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience and falls within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2358). For instructors with a Master’s degree, salaries range from $5,507 to $6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually near the minimum of the range, with adjustments based on the number of WTUs assigned. Appointment & Conditions Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment, and follows the Order of Work outlined by the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; CSU Fresno does not sponsor work visas for temporary faculty. Semester Availability Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026 Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027 Recruitment continues on a rolling basis. Applicants may need to begin teaching on short notice. Required Qualifications Master’s degree, with emphasis in Africana Studies or a closely related field. Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Commitment to teaching excellence, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations. Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
