The Diverse Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team in Astoria, New York. Work Environment\n

This position is fully remote, allowing for flexibility and a comfortable working atmosphere. Although the work setting is virtual, counselors will have access to our comprehensive case management tools and electronic health record systems, such as AVATAR, permitting effective documentation and communication. Key Responsibilities\n

• Conduct thorough preliminary interviews to understand clients' history and present mental health concerns, documenting all case details from the initial consultation through the end of treatment.

• Evaluate clients’ mental, behavioral, and emotional health using standardized assessment tools and clinical judgment to formulate appropriate diagnoses.
\n
• Develop detailed and personalized intervention and recovery plans for individuals, couples, families, and group therapy settings, ensuring that plans align with best practices.
\n
• Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to promote healing and personal growth.
\n
• Regularly monitor and document clients' progress throughout the treatment journey, adjusting the intervention strategies as needed to optimize results.
\n
• Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses, and social workers to create comprehensive intervention plans that address all aspects of a patient’s health.

• Assist with managing referrals to additional services or specialists as appropriate, ensuring clients receive holistic care.
\n
• Educate family members and primary caregivers on mental health issues, empowering them to support their loved ones effectively.

Patient Population / Client Focus\n

You will work with a diverse client population, including individuals facing depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and relationship challenges among others. Our clients are from varied socioeconomic backgrounds, requiring sensitivity and adaptability in your counseling approach.

Qualifications\n

• A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
\n
• Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State.
\n
• Successful completion of relevant examinations, such as the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE).
\n
• Demonstrated commitment to client-centered care and a strong ethical framework in mental health practice.
\n

Preferred Experience\n

• Previous experience in a mental health counselor or related role is preferred, ideally within outpatient settings.

• Familiarity with electronic health records systems and case management tools is a plus, particularly with the AVATAR system.

• A comprehensive understanding of co-occurring physical and emotional health conditions, including addiction disorders.
\n
• Knowledge of the best practices outlined by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).
\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities to build rapport with clients and their families.

Compensation and Benefits\n
